A-day-to-go: Nigeria military recaptures Gwoza from Boko Haram

Nigeria’s military on Friday announced that troops had retaken the town of Gwoza from the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

It would be recalled that it was in Gwoza that the Boko declared their caliphate last year.

“Troops this morning captured Gwoza, destroying the headquarters of the terrorists self-styled caliphate,” Defence Headquarters in Abuja said on Twitter.

Gwoza is the last town remaining under the control of Boko Haram, which President Jonathan had promised would be retaken by this Friday.
