The Ministry of Interior has been directed to withdraw all diplomatic and official passports issued to illegal holders.
The directive was contained in a Statement signed by the Director of Press, Ministry of Interior, Yusuf Isiaka Alhaji on behalf of the Permanent Secretary and made available to journalist yesterday.
“The attention of the Federal government has been drawn to the fact that some Nigerians who are not entitled to hold diplomatic and official passports are in possession of these documents,” the statement said.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) according to the statement was asked to retrieve all valid diplomatic and official passports with immediate effect from all persons who are not entitled to hold such documents.
The statement noted that the drastic action was necessary in order to protect and promote Nigeria’s integrity in the comity of Nations.
It would be recalled that many highly placed Nigerians were illegally issued the Diplomatic and official passports during the reigns of the suspended Comptroller General of the NIS, Mr. David Parradang.
He was suspended last Friday after being accused of “deliberate disregard to the extant laws, insubordination to constituted authority and improper behaviour inimical to the Service that is unbecoming of a public officer.”
