A chemical explosion which occurred at the Lamingo Dam treatment plant of the Plateau State Water Board on Saturday in Jos has claimed the lives of no fewer than five people and 50 others injured.
Plateau State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Abu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident, said that chlorine explosion from a treatment plant was the cause of the accident.
The PPRO also said that the treat ment plan had been cordoned off and the plants management was advised to put in place precautionary measures to secure the plant and avoid re-occurrence.
“Sadly, five persons died in the hospital, while others are receiving treatment.
“Our anti-bomb squad took control of the area and they evacuated the affected persons to the hospital.”
Abu further dismissed earlier insinuations that the explosion was another of Jos’ recent bomb blasts.
